Brewed Awakening in Clarkson, is NOT a rude awakening!
“You remember that coffee you made me yesterday? Can I please have the same, but with two shots. I’m going to need it today.”
Glynis did indeed remember the cup of coffee and she made it with an extra shot. How’s that for service?
The owners of Brewed Awakening will remember you
That is what the owners of Brewed Awakening in Clarkson want you to know. You are not just another face when you walk in there. They want you to become a regular, and enjoy the time that you spend in their shop, because they truly do care about the experience that you have with them.
A new coffee house in Clarkson – Right next to the library. Can life get any better?
I have been watching the changes happening at the premises since late November. As we were walking to the library in Clarkson, I would try and guess what was happening inside. I saw a young man and woman (Lloyd and Cheryl) do the fittings of the cabinets. Later I saw the coffee roasting machine and must admit that my heart fluttered a bit. I loooooove a coffee shop, and am always on the lookout for a new experience.
Then, in the beginning of January 2016 I saw they were open, and thought, “Let’s give it a week or so, just to get the big rush over and done with, and then the Venter Four can venture in.”
Man oh man! What a lovely smell and look! The pastries look almost too good to eat, and when you do bite in to them you want to eat extra slow to try and savour the moment a bit longer.
I visited them again on the 30th of January and Glynis and I had a lovely chat.
Ex South Africans brewing your coffee
Originally from South Africa (they moved 16 years ago) they made Perth their home. Raymond had his own engineering company and later started doing FIFO. Their son Lloyd is a qualified pastry chef with 12 years experience, not only a pastry chef but also as a commercial chef at the mines.
Raymond and Glynis decided that the FIFO life was getting to them and that they really wanted to invest more into their relationship and that of others. Lloyd dreamt of his own shop where he could showcase his talent. And the Brewed Awakening dream was born.
Although working 12 hours a day is not every body’s cup of tea (would that be coffee?) Raymond and Lloyd show up at the shop at 5 every morning to start their days.
They roast the green coffee beans (sourced from Big Brew in Wangara) in the shop. Can you imagine the amazing smells as you walk past on roasting day? They advertise the days that roasting will take place on their Facebook and Instagram accounts, and you are welcome to pop in to see how it is done.
But the coffee! And the cake! Oi! Could you get it any fresher? Roasted and baked on the premises, by the very people who own the shop.
They have four coffee blends: Costa Rican Breeze (clean and well balanced taste), Columbian Sun (bold flavours that works well with espresso and milk based coffees) and Blue Moon (their most popular blend) and Amazon Mist.
The shop may look small inside, but do not forget that they have a whole area with comfortable tub chair seating just out the doors en route to the library as well as an outdoor seating area to catch a bit of fresh air. Could life get any better? A book you like, paired with a perfectly brewed cup of coffee and a comfy chair?
“We will try and make your coffee as you like it,” Glynis said when asked about certain ways of making coffee. She promptly got up and showed me their cold drip coffee maker. I have not seen one before and she informed me that the coffee from a cold drip process is 67% sweeter than normal coffee. No sugar added.
Qualified and experienced pastry chef on site
As my hubby was taking photos in the kitchen of Lloyd working his magic (and magic it is) on the yummy pastries, she also got me a bottle of natural sparkling water, sourced all the way from Macedonia. This family owned and run business really do care about their customers.
Cheryl (Lloyd’s wife) walked around to have a chat with my boys and Raymond (Glynis’ husband) treated them with a bit of milk shake.
When I got up I could sense that she really meant it when she said, “When ever you want to have a chat, come around. I love to talk to people.”
I walked out thinking, “I’ll certainly do that.” I felt as if I have just made a new friend.
